Cornwall Council votes to change its constitution

At the final Full Council meeting of this session of Cornwall Council on 16 April, various amendments to the constitution of the council were agreed, to take effect from the start of the new council after the May elections.

The main change is to introduce Portfolio Advisory Committees that would have 10 bankbench members of the Council to work in parallel with each of the Cabinet portfolio holders. Instead of the existing 5 scrutiny committees, there will be one Scrutiny Management Commmittee that will determine what items in particular need to be scrutinised more carefully and will set up a scrutiny process for the particular items.

Fuller details of the changes can be found in the papers for the Full Council meeting at item 9.4 Constitution - implementation of the governance changes.
