Cornwall Council Budget Proposals for 2015-16 and following 3 years

The first draft draft of Cornwall Council's proposed budget for next 4 years has been published by the Cabinet. Forecast is that we will make approx. £24 million savings in current year (2014/15); that we will need to make £68 million of savings next year (2015/16); and then further savings totaling £98 million over the following 3 years.

Some of the cuts proposed include: cease funding Visit Cornwall; transfer all public toilets to parish and town councils; introduce parking charges for staff at some sites; remove all subsidies to leisure services; increase car park charges and introduce some on-street parking charges; reduce maintenance of open spaces; many cuts in adult social care etc.

A useful summary of the potential cuts was published in the West Briton article below.

The proposals are going through a consultation process with the public and within the Council's committees. It is intended that the Full Council meeting in November 2014 will agree upon a final version of the budget.
