Cornwall Council consults on potential changes to the policy on allocating houses and the housing register

Cornwall Council has a statutory duty to set out in an Allocations Scheme the way in which social housing is prioritised and let. Social housing is in short supply in Cornwall and there are more people who need or would like help in getting a home than we can provide.

New legislation from Central Government means that Local Authorities can now make changes to their schemes such as who can qualify to join the Housing Register. These changes will help Cornwall Council and Cornwall Housing Ltd to better manage the housing waiting lists by making sure that the social houses that are available go to those families and individuals that are in the greatest need.

Cornwall Council Members have agreed to consult on some changes to the current scheme, and we are proposing changes to:

  • Who can join the Housing Register;
  • How applicants are banded;
  • How housing will be advertised and let;
  • Applicant responsibilities.

Further details and all the documentation you need can be found at Council allocations scheme review

To have your say please complete the online survey.

This consultation will run from Monday the 28th April until Friday the 13th June 2014.

The purpose of this consultation is to seek views on the changes that are proposed in the Allocations Scheme. It is very important that we reach as many people as we can as these proposed changes could affect many people in the communities you represent - and your and their responses will help us to make sure that the new scheme will work.
