Grampound Surgery: Good news as deal reached with doctors over opening times (April 2012) After a year of uncertainty over the future of Grampound Surgery, agreement has now been reached on what level of service will be provided in the village. The doctors’ first proposal last year was to close it all together; then, in the autumn, their plan B involved cutting back provision so that there would only be 3 GP sessions per week here. However, you, as local residents, together with strong support from the parish council, continued to express dissatisfaction with this proposal. The officers of the PCT felt that provision in Grampound and the Merlin Centre combined should be at least equivalent to the existing level of Grampound. After further negotiation with the doctors, it has been agreed to provide 6 GP sessions per week in Grampound and 1 in the Merlin Centre. Nurse clinics will also remain at 5 overall (3 in Grampound and 2 in Merlin). The surgery will be closed all day on Thursday and there will be reduced hours of opening on the other days. Overall, however, I think that this is a good outcome for all concerned, with the community retaining a valuable local facility, and residents east of Grampound benefitting from the new facility at the Merlin Centre.
